Shadowing
Another shadowing shift at Wimpole House from 11.00am to 4.00pm. I was following a friend who I know quite well and who has volunteered at WH for about 12 years. She was very informative on all aspects of our work.
It was quite busy as many schools were on strike. So lots of parents and grandparents with all ages trailing round the whole house from the upstairs bedroom floor to the servants' rooms in the basement.
I spent the afternoon in the grand dining room (see extra). We welcomed a big group of Japanese school girls. They were shy at first but with encouragement they began to ask questions. My favourite was "What is the purpose of this room?" As I explained dinner being served in such a large ornate room they could hardly believe it! Very different from Japanese eating arrangements!
I really enjoyed my shadowing afternoon!
