Bowels of Industry
Posting this a day late...CB and I walked quickly for just under 6 miles in old urban industrial Cleveland area with sub-freezing temperatures and lots of wind, ice, and some snowfall. First, Washington Reservation which has two picnic areas spread apart along E. 49th Street. The highway parallels the north side and steel mills and other industrial buildings flank the other. There were homes near one of the picnic areas that also has a golf course and a horticultural school. We mistook one walker for a Cleveland Metroparks Policeman and all had a long laugh after a 5 minute conversation that confused us all.
Then we drove down Harvard Rd to nearby Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation which follows the Cuyahoga River that snakes between industry on both sides. We will return to see more of this great park, since it has miles of paths; some eventually connect to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Lots of interesting history going back to the 1800s. Top right shows a giant steam hammer from 1872 used to shape or cut metal in factories.
We found an eagle's nest and luckily saw it soar out of the nest and follow the river. None of my pictures were great, taken on a dismal day with temporarily freezing hands and wind in my eyes. But we had a blast. CB enjoys hiking on cold winter days like I do. We dress so the cold only reaches our faces, and hands when out of our gloves.
Only 4 of 18 reservations left to visit for the challenge.
Thanks for liking my mono Monday motion shot.
