Bundle Up!
We're anchored off Salisbury Plain in South Georgia this morning -- but it's very socked in with fog, and I decided not to bother putting on my "100" layers of polar gear and go off in the Zodiac this morning. Instead I had a lovely long hot shower (which wasn't pitching and yawing the way it does when we're at sea!), and lazed about with a couple of cups of coffee while the intrepid Mr. W set off on a solo excursion to see what he could see.
This has pretty much been my daily outfit since we came aboard -- multiple layers of clothing to keep warm and dry when out exploring. From left to right: a turtleneck, base layer long underwear, sweater, polar fleece trousers, heavy socks, woolly hat, waterproof trousers, expedition parka with down liner, gloves, life jacket, walking poles, and last but not least (and not visible in this picture, because they are kept down in the mud room on deck 3) sea boots.
After putting all this lot on, we feel just like we did as toddlers when our mothers would bundle us up to go outside and play in the snow!
Extra: What Mr. W saw -- thousands upon thousands of King penguins!
