Audrey...
Audrey's daughter-in-law described Audrey today as humble, gracious, compassionate and with an unselfish attitude towards others. Ian described her as quiet, unassuming calm, kind and an integral member of our church family. Just a few of the words spoken at her funeral service.
To Ted, she was his wife of many years, mother to their two sons, grandmother to their grandchildren, and just before she died, a great-grandmother to Archie.
We learnt today that because Audrey was a quiet and shy child, her parents quietly encouraged her to have elocution lessons to help her share her love of literature and poetry. She went on in her adult life to join a drama group and performed in several plays. She was a bi-lingual secretary, having studied at the Lycée in Kensington. The spoken word was certainly her gift, bringing to life everything she read, yet without the dramatic or seeking any attention to herself.
So sadly, dementia took away Audrey's speech, yet she always kept her beautiful smile. Today we remembered Audrey as we all knew her, quiet, unassuming, and the beautiful yin to Ted's yang.
