Shoe tree

It's that time of year when art installations appear across campus. I'm assuming this is part of someone's finals show.
I'm sure there's some deep meaning here but it's escaped me. If anyone can interpret please weigh in. For the moment it's a bit of fun. So if the interpretation is depressing keep it to yourself.
