Parents
This photograph for the May HeartFreek Photo Challenge is Mr. HCB's parents taken on their wedding day on 29th June 1935. Joan and Harry were married in the Methodist Central Hall, but we aren't sure if the photograph was taken there or in the photographer's studio. We think possibly the church because it was an old building and the wood panelling and could have been folding doors, which was common in those days to change a large hall into smaller meeting rooms.
The bridesmaid sitting on the left of Joan was Doris, a lifelong friend from the time they started school and at the time they both died, they had been friends for over 80 years. What a friendship!
Mr HCB thinks that the best man, Will, was also sweet on Joan, but she chose Harry and they were happily married for just over 40 years.
Harry was called up, joined the Army and was posted to India, where he served for about 3 years. Mr. HCB said his father came home when he was about 4 years old, but didn't remember his daddy, so ran away and hid - a bag of sweets soon tempted him out from his hiding place.
They were a lovely couple who always made me very welcome and were very kind to me, for which I am very grateful.
