Cylinder Figure

I was just looking up the dates of the Potfest for this year and putting them the calendar. We have managed to get to either Pots in the Park or Pots in the Pens every year since the event started in 1994.

And every year we have inevitably bought pieces that we liked. We have always been taken by the work of the organisers of the event, Geoff and Christine Cox, and now have rather a large collection! They work in very different ways and their work has developed over the years. So our collection reflects this.

We started buying Geoff's Warriors and then Aztecs. (For examples of these see here). Then he moved on to making Cylinder Figures, which is what this one is. He said that he was experimenting with seeing just how abstract a figure could become and still have human attributes. So no limbs, no features. Was it recognisable human features that gave them life or was it something more intangible? We have a few of these, all different and in different sizes. This one I like very much. It stands about 38 cms tall and the touches of gold shine in the light. It seems to have an air of serenity about it. How can that be in such a simple piece?
