At the Gate of Seagate
That's Lisa and Mike and Cindy posing in front of a Crosley automobile. We were the 2nd group to get to go into Seagate, the estate of Powel Crosley II.
As the first guide said..."I don't think Mr. Crosley gets enough credit for the things he invented. What are the inventions and some of the other things he did?
Created an affordable ($20) transistor radio.
Made the first push-button car radio.
Brought soap operas to radio.
Launched the world's most powerful commercial radio station. WLW
In 1934, purchased the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.
Installed the first lights on a baseball field.
Formed the Crosley Broadcasting Company.
In 1939, he produced this car, the first compact. It weighed 1000 pounds and was sold through department stores for 325 dollars. The car company closed down in 1952.
Quite a list, and quite a house. A picture of the exterior is in my extras. It is now mostly used for a wedding venue. It was open today and the price was right...free.
