Today's the day ...................... to indulge

There's something very indulgent about being able to go to a talk in the middle of the afternoon - one of the benefits of being retired from the working life.

It's even better when the talk is by such an excellent speaker as Patrick Laurie and the subject matter is something close to your heart that you would like to learn more about.  Patrick was in conversation with Douglas Alcock of the Stewartry Literary Society and the topic under discussion was his book 'Native - life in a vanishing landscape' (see extra).  

Patrick was brought up near Dalbeattie and after university and a stint in the Inner Hebrides returned to farm heritage cattle.  In taking on the farm, he was forced to confront relentless and accelerating change - and in his book, he explored the enduring connection between humans, farming and nature.  It was a subject that was very relevant to everyone there.

The above oystercatcher was caught in the act on my way home after the talk, digging for something tasty in the muddy silt down at the harbour ........................
