Ravenglass…looking very exotic today (just as well you can’t feel the temperature from the blip). You’d never guess Sellafield is just off to the right of this picture.
I caught the train to Drigg and walked to Ravenglass and then on to look at the remains of the Roman bath house and up to Newtown Knott. The bath house has some of the tallest remains in the country apparently. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/ravenglass-roman-bath-house/
Then got the train back again and later had a walk along the beach at Silecroft. Knackered now and right hip is having a good whinge.
Windscale - Norman Nicholson
The toadstool towers infest the shore:
Stink-horns that propagate and spore
Wherever the wind blows.
Scafell looks down from the bracken band
And sees hell in a grain of sand,
And feels the canker itch between his toes.
This is a land where the dirt is clean
And poison pasture, quick and green,
And storm sky, bright and bare;
Where sewers flow with milk, and meat
is carved up for the fire to eat,
And children suffocate in God's fresh air.
