About to leave the nest
Thirteen days after emerging from its egg this, "Small Wattlebird" chick is about to take flight. The parent (male) shown here gave some brief chirped instructions and demonstrated extending its wings etc. before the chick flew off only two hours later. The Extra shows the chick looking around carefully just before it took flight. I stopped taking photos when they both kept nervously looking at me with the 500mm lens in my kitchen (I didn't want to interfere with the crucial lessons so I got well out of the way further inside my home)... The chick's parents have come back several times, checking if the chick has returned. Earlier blips have shown the chick being feed....
