Legend
Although overall the National Equine Show was disappointing it was made worthwhile by a talk on safety by the chief medical officer from BETA and a session with Carl Hester MBE multiple medal winning dressage rider and trainer to stars such as Charlotte Dujardin.
Key learning point to share - if someone has an accident whilst riding and is in need of medical attention 1) check if the call handler is horsey and 2) make sure to describe the accident including details such as how far from the ground they fell ~2.5 - 3m, what speed they were travelling at - canter is ~20mph, if bucked off how far they flew through the air before landing. Describe in as much detail as possible.
New learning for me - you don't need to hit your head to get concussion - any sudden accelerations can cause your brain to be bounced around your skull.
Hope you had a good day.
