Derelict Sunday

This is intriguing - it could even have been a Silly Saturday blip. This rollator walking aid is definitely on the way to being derelict - in particular its foam looks pretty "moth eaten" and its bag has definitely seen better days. But why should it have been left here, on a rough footpath and 3-400 yards from the nearest vehicular access? Did someone suddenly find that they could walk without it? Assuming that it's been fly-tipped, why carry it so far from the nearest road? Definitely a puzzle.

As you can see there's some other dereliction around too. Firstly a fallen post next to the rollator, secondly further along the track to the left is a dumped, damaged parking ticket dispenser machine - which I blipped on 4th December and which is still here.

You can also see several felled trees. This is the same location as I blipped for last weeks Derelict Sunday challenge - and I've now found out what's going on. It's in preparation for a new underpass (presumably just for pedestrians) under the railway line to replace the "Palmersville Dairy (pedestrian) Level Crossing". The line is currently just used for occasional goods trains but will form part of a re-opened Newcastle-Ashington passenger line in due course with half-hourly trains - sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure why such a large area of trees had to be felled for this purpose but it's good to know that it's not to squeeze yet another development of hundreds of houses onto the site!
