Let sleeping ducks lie

Up with the sparrows to walk on this glorious Sunday morning. Decided on a park which is quite a long way from where we live - for the exercise and photo opportunities. Along the way there were burgundy peonies at their blowsiest best, dogs with joggers, my shadow looming on brick walls, beautiful trees, buttercups and daisies...so much all around.

I was obviously up before these ducks and was quite sure they were fast asleep when I sneaked up on them. But on downloading the pix to my computer I noticed they all had their eyes open! Do ducks sleep with open eyes I wonder? They were still curled up like this as I tiptoed off like a sugarplum fairy in my heavy sneakers.
