Surprise

I threw a surprise homecoming party for my parents today. A friend and I have been working on it for a few days, but had to keep all our scheming and activities quiet (my dad's even on blip, so no mention here). Only a few party people showed up, but a small group of good friends made for an excellent party. And they were really surprised.

The blip is my mom's initial entry. The house was decked out with streamers, balloons, and a big spray-painted banner; Sousa was playing on the iPod speakers; friends were wearing party hats and armed with noisemakers; fresh veggies and burgers were on the grill; champagne was chilling; and a good time was had by all.

The day started out a bit shaky when I crashed my bike on the way to work (at the farmers' market) and had to make an emergency supply run as soon as I got there. But the day improved. At one point a boy who was wandering through the middle of the market turned to his mom and asked, "whose party is this?" adding a bit of amusement to a slow business day (so did the juggler a couple stalls down). At the end of the market, I had to convince someone with a license to re-park the truck for me and put up with an hour or so of friendly ridicule.

I'm exhausted from much biking, working, and partying on little sleep and my parents are exhausted from the three thousand-mile journey back home (from two years in the nation's capital) and partying on little sleep. And so we are all off to our respective beds.

Good night blip.
