Ancient scenery

When I was growing up, one of the highlights of our December (summer) school holiday, was driving from the Highveld where we lived, to the Lowveld, where my grandma lived. This particular road has become more traveled in recent years, being the favorite route between the homes of my two sisters. There are others just as lovely but this one always seems to win out when we decide which way to go.

Somewhere between Barberton and Machadodorp, the kameeldoring trees, macadamia and tropical fruit orchards give way to undulating grasslands and mountain sides covered by giant aloes. It makes my heart sing. It's Mom's birthday today but we'll celebrate this weekend, as we have a six hour drive ahead of us.

We stopped here so our companion vehicle could catch up to us.
Good job, niece, you are an ace driver!
