Gentians

For many years the emblem of the Alpine Garden Society was this image of the Trumpet Gentian.  It appeared on headed notepaper, our magazine and on other publications.  In a 'rebranding' exercise, the logo was 'modernised,' the gentian being replaced by a new flower design ... not a change that every member welcomed :-/   Last weekend, preparing to go to the Pershore AGS flower show, I came across some old show exhibit cards, with the gentian logo, the size of a postage stamp, on them.   The seed of an idea was sown.

I photographed the gentian drawing, enlarged it on my laptop and sent it to Jamie.  He has used his Cricut - Cricut said like the bug, cricket! - machine to produce both a vinyl sticker in blue which looks great on glass and a larger version in card.  Two of the card designs stuck together on a piece of card have given me a way to transfer the design onto clay.  So this morning I started work on a door plaque for my house to replace the post-it note that advertises the house number.  There's more work to do but I'm pleased with it so far,

Lunchtime we drove to Aberystwyth where Jamie and I had overdue eye tests.  Mostly I got a clean bill of health but in one eye the optometrist detected a little haziness which can be an early stage of a cataract.  Oddly, this was in what I think of as my good eye!   It's not causing me any trouble at this time, hopefully will stay that way for a long time.  Both of us have new glasses.  I'll save the big reveal until I have them, mine are controversial - at least where the kids are concerned.  Ruth's reaction on seeing a picture was "Oh .... " followed later by "Really?"   They are different but I like them!

Back home, visitor John has arrived.  Good to see him and catch up on his news.   Sunshine forecast for his two days here.  Nice.
