Statues of two Indiginous Elephants

I was in Maryhill in the late afternoon
When I was going along Shakespeare Street on my way home, I noticed these Statues of Elephants.
I looked up the Internet as I thought the Statues must have some significance
I found that there had been a proposal to build Flats rather than an Elephant Park that the locals wanted.
According to the photo, the Council won their plan as there are Flats behind the two Elephants.
