Noust

This is a noust- a small boat shelter by the shore. There are still lots around Orkney, this one is at Spo Ness on Westray. It is on a pool separated from the sea by a shingle beach but the pool must have been open to the sea previously, there wouldn't be a call for a noust on a tiny pool. I went over hoping to see a spotted redshank that has been frequenting the bay and loch of Swartmill. A couple of local birders were kind enough to meet me and help me locate the bird, though I was pleased to 'spot' it first! It was at the far side of the Loch of Swartland and my extra is a very cropped shot of it. My first!
