Thunderbirds are Go!

This is one of my favourite buildings - I know its a service station, Forton on the M6, but just look at it - straight out of Thunderbirds. I think it sums up the positive view of the future there was in sixties Britain. Would you have the courage to commission this today? The future was going to be bright, clean and space agey. You would sweep along the motorway in your Vauxhall Cresta stopping for refreshments and a stroll on the sundeck. The reality, squalid, noisy and full of junk food and games arcades - but what a vision.
