Burning bush
I have walked past the West Parish Church here in Fraserburgh dozens of times but until today had never noticed the carving above the door. It consists of the date when the church was built 1876 - which at that time was on the edge of the town and a burning Bush the emblem of the Church of Scotland. The burning bush emblem has been in use since 1691 and is often accompanied by the Latin inscription 'Nec Tamen Consumebatur' which translates as 'It was not however consumed'. This refers to the incident when Moses encountered the burning Bush.
