WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY!

We had a great service at Church today - with good singing and a game for the children before they went out to their classes in Kidzone.  It was a competition between the children and adults and it was good that the children won - their teachers must have been delighted to know that the work they do week by week is bearing fruit - even if it is in a game.  One lad, who was about 10 years old, surprised us all when he knew that the name of the priest who blessed Abraham was Melchizedek - and I must confess, I didn’t know the answer!

After a great sermon last week about giving, the sermon today centred around part of the Sermon on the Mount and more specifically about lust.  WOW!  David was brilliant and once again, it was good to hear a sermon about something that isn’t often preached about.  Another one to watch again and of course, we will now be wondering what subject will be preached on next week!  Following the service, we stayed for coffee and it was good to catch up with several friends and chat with them in a relaxed atmosphere.

After Church, as it was such a beautiful day, we went out for a drive, intending to look for some dereliction.  We did find some, but I decided I would leave that for another time and make a collage of the beautiful tulips that were in the Church foyer, rumbled by Becky as I took the photograph and who said she reads my Blips, some snowdrops we saw along a grassy bank and a stunning view from the top of the hill at Elcombe, just above Wroughton.  The sky was a beautiful blue and with the fluffy clouds, it could almost have been a summer’s day.

One thing that marred it though, was the presence of a lot of litter - and I don’t mean one or two pieces but much more, consisting of wrappers, newspapers, takeaway containers, tin cans and other detritus.  It makes me sad when I see this because it is sheer laziness on the part of those who presumably have enjoyed the view before us - and you can see some of it in the bottom photograph.  We did notice that the litter bin was overflowing, so I guess the County Council must take some responsibility for not emptying the bins, and had we had some gloves in the car, we might have collected it, but we decided against it, especially in view of the situation in the last couple of years with viruses.

Hope you all have a great week - Mr. HCB,  my “in-house” weatherman, tells me that the weather should be much like today, which is good - Spring is definitely on the way.

"The flowers of late winter
     and early spring occupy
          places in our hearts
               well out of proportion
                    to their size."
Gertrude S. Wister

P.S.  Mr. HCB was delighted that we got home in time for him to see his team win 2-0!
