The other four Monarchs departed enthusiastically - these five were probably later emerging from their chrysalis and still preparing for their departure into the wild.

In the background empty cases can be seen, also several green chrysalis. Within, the caterpillar will be morphing into a butterfly while the black chrysalis is the butterfly almost ready to emerge.

This is the larger of the two caterpillar castles I have which keep the eggs and caterpillars safe from the food chains of paper wasps and praying mantis.
