Zucchini flower
We like zucchini so each year I plant 15-20 seeds and about 4 months later (see extra) we normally manage a respectable crop. The shapes and sizes may be a bit variable but the flavour is well above supermarket standard.
Just before picking the finished product come the flowers which not only look delightful but are, in some quarters, regarded as a delicacy in their own right. They tend to appear in those restaurants you need to book six months ahead, the indecipherable menu is a mixture of four or five languages, the cost is breathtaking and the quality no better than isbi turns out regularly at home.
I find the best use for the flowers is to let them drop off to help fertilise the soil for next year’s crop.
