Wildwood Mountain Vineyards
It's been awhile since we walked around the circuit of streets above us. The house in the foreground of this picture is the front of what we call The Bunker on Los Alamos road.It was dropped in two parts onto a foundation by a huge crane. Most of the architectural details, such as they are, were added to the front later. Because it is on a fairly steep slope, the back of the house which faces us is a three story structure with a row of windows at the top overlooking our fire garden. It has been under construction for years and has been on the market for many months, without much action. We're not surprised because no effort has been made to clean up the mess in the yard and not even the most basic landscaping has been done in the front. They are currently digging trenches parallel to the road, so we walked up there this morning to see if we could figure out what was going on. We couldn't...
I took this picture of the dormant vineyards on Wildwood Mountain this morning. It's a good thing because if they were developing fruit the frost could ruin the whole crop. I thought about taking out the power lines but they are an intrinsic part of the landscape here so I left them in. Sometimes our eyes can edit out things like lines and poles but it's pretty hard to do here. Most of the wooden poles burned and had to be had to be replaced after the fire. It seems shortsighted, to put it mildly, that they weren't replaced by metal ones.
It was 29F this morning and there is a freeze warning for tomorrow morning as well with possible snow flurries predicted. I will be very surprised if there is snow here as it would be very rare, but one never knows. Nothing is surprising anymore.
