Fireman's Memorial
I was walking down Princes street in Edinburgh this afternoon when I noticed a load of dead flowers attached to some iron railings which confused me for a moment until I realised I was outside Jenners and these flowers were a memorial to Barry Martin the firefighter who died after tackling the blaze in the basement of the building a couple of weeks ago. I was quite moved by television pictures of the number of firefighters from all over the UK who came to pay their homage at his memorial service in St.Giles Cathedral this week. It seems that Scotland always seems to hit the right note when mourning the death of public servants as was supremely seen after the death of the Queen.
