Sporrans & the Schoolhouse
A rainy Findhorn today - so spent a good chunk of the day in the Bakehouse having a girly lunch serious meetings with the creative sector. A visit to the Sporran Nation studio in Forres spawned today's Blip - love visiting artists studios & hearing about their work, challenges & successes.
Back to Findhorn for a wander in the rain, popped into the Heritage Centre & mentioned that my great-grandfather taught at the school >100 years ago. 'You'll want to look at these.' - a collection of documents about the school, with my G-Grandfather listed as the third head teacher, 1892-1904. (So excited I jumped out of the chair!) Two of his children also on the pupil roll.
A friendly lady then took me along to the school, now a hostel & village centre, and showed me around, telling me the history. I know from the 1901 census that my ancestor, John Dewar, lived in the schoolhouse when he taught in Findhorn. Fascinating!
What a day - family history, old schools & exciting new plans for culture in Moray.
I might like this place a lot.....
Oh - also discovered new beer: Windswept Brewing Co, Lossiemouth. Apt.
