Ceramic Class Plate
Slab/Wheel Sgraffito Plate; this view shows the inner swirl made with white slip. Slip is clay/ceramic talk for saying a very watery white clay. This was applied to the inside flat area of the plate, then while the potter's wheel was turning slowly, I pressed my index finger at the center and slowly moved it outwards, letting the rotation create the swirl.
Click here for the side view. Did you notice how the glaze colouring changes with different lighting? Artificial lighting accentuates the green undertone, but natural lighting brings out the bluer tones.
