The excitement of seeds

This was the day the major part of this year's seed order arrived. I'm always excited to go through the package, remember what I ordered, and just lay them all out and look at them. So much hope and promise! This is not a complete set of seeds, as some things didn't need to be re-ordered this year - we have lots of beetroot, lettuce and chard for example, and more beans and tomatoes. The package, along with a few packets from other suppliers, contained many varieties which have become familiar and trusted friends: Crown Prince squash, aubergine Bonica, cauliflower Boris (good caulis, despite the unfortunate name), courgette Defender, and Cristal and Golden Cherry tomatoes. There are some completely new things too: okra, which will be an experiment, sorrel for salad or soup, and winter squash Delicata, which is a Blip recommendation.

In the next few days I hope to clear space in the garden room to set up the heated propagator close to the window and start sowing aubergine and tomato seeds, and salad leaves to start in the greenhouse; and then I will need to clean out the greenhouses... So much to do, but at this stage in the year, before everything runs away from me, it all feels positive and possible...
