Crabeater Seal …

… which actually eats krill and not crabs.

Today we slipped quietly into the Lallemand Fjord (67º06’ S, 66º42’ W), a deep fjord surrounded by towering mountains of continental Antarctica, on the western side of the Antarctic Peninsular. It extends over 30 miles flowing into Crystal Sound. The fjord was named by Jean-Baptiste Charcot for French geographer Charles Lallemand, a member of the Bureau des Longitudes.

We do not go on land but move around this spectacular fjord in a small boat, given the calm, mild weather of just -1ºC, stunning sunshine and gentle winds.

The scenery is simply breathtaking, indescribable. Helen Keller said, however, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.”
