Optimism

Catkins caught in the late afternoon sunlight. 
I heard a man on the radio say researchers have discovered that optimists on average live 5 or 6 years longer than pessimists. So I'm trying my hardest. But what is an optimist? 
A quote from Steven Galloway's book The Cellist of Sarajevo: "Do you know the difference between an optimist and a pessimist? A pessimist says 'Oh dear, things can't possibly get any worse.' And an optimist says, 'Don't be so sad. Things can always get worse."
