Monday: Engaged!

J&S have been together for 12 years - today he proposed and she said yes! We were in the know beforehand and discussed with J where might be a good spot.  He liked the idea of a Mayan site so today we headed down to Xunantunich.  We got there early so as to avoid the crowds.  J coaxed S up to the top while we tried to waylay some tourists who were on their way up to the top.  It wasn’t particularly hard - when we told them why we wanted them to slow they were happy to dawdle.  S was as surprised as we thought she would be.

We celebrated with a late breakfast at Benny’s Kitchen before heading to the iguana reserve in San Ignacio where we let iguanas climb all over us - literally. They were actually lovely and calm to hold…….

Housekeeper Lily decorated outside with balloons for us and put some champagne on ice which we had by the pool.  The day culminated with dinner at Rivera, it’s very local so quite an experience.  As S said, a very satisfying day (she has been somewhat mocked for referring to her engagement day as ‘satisfying’).
