Tighnabruaich
Sun 12th
Bright start but soon turning very wet. Lazy morning then car round to Millhouse where there once was a gunpowder works. There is a memorial outside the gates, which now lead to the village cemetery, to men who were killed in various explosions in the works and to men who were lost on the aptly named boat 'Guy Fawkes'. We had a wander round the cemetery looking for names on Apothecary7's family tree or names that she might be able to add. One of the branches of Apothecary7's family tree is centred on Kames and the Parish of Kilfinan.
We went to the Coach House Square cafe on the Ardlamont Estate for lunch and at the same time met our hosts for the week. The cafe was very quiet. There haven't been a lot of day visitors to the area yet this year we heard and the cafes aren't opening all through the week yet. It appears that the late Spring is having its effects on the tourist businesses.
Back at the cottage we got the log burner going and stayed in to watch the F1 on telly. Later in the afternoon it did try to clear up for a while so we went round to Tighnabruaich for a peep in the windows of the gallery and for a walk along the seafront.
At best a week of showers and bright spells it would seem !
