The Nighthawks
I clipped this out of a much bigger photo - see extra. Amazing how photos can look like painting. It reminded me of Edward Hopper with its subdued gouache palette and stark composition.
Meanwhile on with the spontaneous garden rearrangements. Bought another 30 hedging plants - osmanthus woodbrookii ? And planted them and watered them in. The woman at the nursery bemoaned ‘this wind that goes on and on drying out everything’ and the scary lack of rain.
But there I go, planting a hedge in the face of the wind but in soil deep near the terrace edge where roots will hopefully find moisture in the summer to come.
It really takes awhile to get to know a place, from those desiccating winds, late frosts and merciless summer heat. Then you begin to think what might survive and prosper without endless attention and scarce-ish water resources.,
