Don’t ask me why these two very opposing needs are consuming my brain but I’m both thinking more about income planning for future working life and retirement, AND wanting to jack it all in and go travelling indefinitely in Brazil. Life begins at 40, as they say. Or wildly diverging ideas do.

I was thwarted at my attempts to locate a hotel swimming pool that allows visitors for a small fee. ‘Guests only’ was the general response. Either that’s the official policy or all my traipsing around had left me too sweaty to maintain the standard of the facilities. I’ll persevere as Dar es Salaam is so hot at the moment that a go-to swimming pool holds much appeal. Most of the coastline is blocked by private ownership but I almost jumped into the sea here next to a barren patch of wasteground.

After a healthy week I fell into a pizzeria for one of those spicy ‘nduja sausage diavola varieties. As of late hands down my favourite topping.
