Crowned Plover
This lovely bird is the logo for our Humewood Golf club. I always carry my small camera in my golf bag on Saturdays when we play social golf, and happily interrupt the game if I see a potential blip!
These birds often nest on the fairway or just off it, and their nesting places are always marked by the ground staff with a red flag to warn the golfers. If you dare go too close these birds fly around making a noisy call, and sometimes dive bomb one! They become very protective when they have their chicks too.
We are always excited to see little plovers running around, and marvel when they reach maturity having escaped from being eaten by the mongoose population who also inhabit the course - sometimes the eggs are eaten before they are even hatched.
As you can see the weather was glorious and sunny - not a drop of wind.
