horns of wilmington's cow

Sad Start to the Day

Getting to the top of the track in the way to work, stopped to turn out, I spotted something caught in the headlights, lying still in the road. I thought it was a small fox initially, but as soon as I walked towards it I realised it was a Pine Marten. The poor thing wasn’t long dead, rigor not quite set in, and still slightly warm as I moved it for a little more dignity away from further car tyres.

I’d rather this wasn’t the first time I’d seen a Pine Marten in the wild with my own eyes (having seen some on trail cams before), and I’d rather not have learned so immediately how big and heavy they are, with the most amazing face and tail

RIP Fuzzball.
