St Michael and All Angels
Wulferic the Hermit of Haselbury lived in a cell attached to this church in the 12th C. Before being converted he lived a worldly wealthy life until he met a beggar then his life changed. He became an anchorite and lived an austere life, eating little, depriving himself of sleep, reciting the Psalms in a bath of cold water and wearing a hair shirt covered with a heavy chain mail tunic. Wulferic became known for his miracles of healing and made prophecies. Here he continued to live for 29 years. People travelled many miles to visit him, including the royalty of the time. Stories about him were still being circulated by oral tradition in Somerset as late as the 1900's.
Went to the farm shop looking for pots of spring bulbs and flowers but there weren't any to be found so ended up having a snack lunch and buying edibles to take home. K and the children came in for a cuppa.
