Listening to a piece about this writer and traveller on R4 Saturday Live this morning reminded me that I haven't read this for many, many years. So I'm going to spend this miserably wet day curled up, reading. What a treat!

I've been suffering from temporary insanity and misery as a result of the pre-holiday cake-free diet I'm on but it's working - hooray! - so it's worth carrying on for another couple of weeks, even though it's a bit faddy and mad.
