Harsh but necessary

Beautiful day today, mostly spent digging over and manuring veg beds ready for the new season. We saw a huge flock of lapwings, they passed over us and headed towards Northumberland - hoping some will soon arrive to nest in our top field as they did last year.

I took the fairly brutal decision to chop down this holly tree. I love trees, all of them, but this one was too big and too near the house, blocking light and encroaching on the path. I left the bottom of it, and if it survives it will make a nice compact bush. I’ll be planting more trees too. I still feel bad though!
