An historic day today in Victoria. This totem pole was removed from the Royal BC Museum where it has been for one hundred years. After ceremonies it will begin its long journey of repatriation to the Nuxalt First Nation in Bella Coola on the central coast. The museum had to take out walls, dismantle some permanent exhibits and remove a window in order to get it out of the building. Hopefully this will be a precedent setting step In the too slow process of returning things to their rightful cultures.
