The Helford Passage
Walked from the Hotel this morning, along the coast path to Maenporth where we enjoyed a coffee with the lapping of the waves . All the way along the path, Spring flowers were beginning to appear - pink -campion, violets and primroses .
We walked back to the hotel along the road, then drove a little way above the Helford Passage .
Another short walk down to the shoreline to the Ferry Boat Inn for a much needed cup of tea. Refreshed we walked above the waters towards Glen Durgan , passing Trebah Gardens and their private beach . Some of the concrete road built by the Americans for the D- Day Landings still remains . The Americans set off from the Trebah Beach but Donald Healey ( of car fame ) had the remaining structures removed in the 1960s .
The views along the path are magnificent and it was fun to explore an unfamiliar coastline . We’d walked about six miles by the time we returned to the car . Home James for a recovery bath and we ended the day with a welcome supper at the historic Red Lion Inn in Mawnam Smith .
