Finally arrived

It wasn’t the wind. It was the Saharan sand and oodles of fog.

We took off from Birmingham but our lovely pilot soon broke the bad news. We were heading for Faro. Cristiano Ronaldo Airport, Madeira was closed because of dreadful visibility.

We refuelled in Faro. We were all regulars. It was very relaxed and friendly and the Jet2 staff kept thanking us for our patience. We knew it wasn’t their fault. Our lovely relaxed captain said we would take off and there was “a half decent chance” we could get in.

We got there. He made it first time. He had a huge round of applause which reminded me of the good old days of Aeroflot. (They are only allowed three attempts before they have to divert, refuel and try again.)

We were ahead of all but one Jet2 flight and, although we were massively late arriving, he’d done us proud.

I dashed to the supermarket. We had something to eat, and the holiday starts here.

Sorry about the photo - a rapid snap of the monstrosity that is the Savoy Palace…..
