Montagu Bridge

The River North Esk flows peacefully under the Montagu Bridge in Dalkeith Park to tumble across a little waterfall on the other side and travel through very old oak woodland to join the River South Esk further down.   The bridge was built in 1792 by Robert Adam on the occasion of the marriage between the Montagu and Queensberry families and originally it had 3 life size sculptures of stags  but they were removed because they were frightening the horses on their way to Dalkeith Palace.
