A surprise
We have had a bad outbreak of Bird Flu in Norfolk for each of the last three winters. Before the epidemic we had six rescue hens. For the first two years we housed our "flock" in a tent to comply with the regulations to keep the birds undercover. Gradually over time the birds died one by one until we are now left with only one bird.
The remaining hen has been renamed Lonely in the last few months. Previously she have several names, most of them not suitable for Blip and reflected her temperament, she is not a social bird and ensured everybody knows it.
She has never laid eggs on a regular basis and has not produced one in the last six months at least. Imagine my surprise when I found this in the coop this morning. It is small but perfectly formed.
Maybe Lonely has turned over a new leaf, she certainly got extra corn as a treat this afternoon.
