Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Kovalam day 3

Two more collages today I had difficulty choosing which to make my main blip.
The first has an extraordinary rock ridge which from the research I've done appears to be part of an old quarry. The main quarry is now full of water. They have recently put a proper fence around it, it used to just have a knee high barrier.
In recent times, local people have started to come down to the beach, especially on a Sunday, to wander, to look and to play in the waves. The top shot is looking south towards the lighthouse after which this bay is named. The second is in the next bay, just 100 metres away, it's the one where my hotel is, looking west. If you look at the group at the edge of the water, you'll see they are wearing dresses. It's not uncommon to see women completely wet through wearing sarees in the water. Next it's a later view of the same bay looking north. I was rather pleased with the egret in the front pool.
I started late again today, I'll pretend its the jetlag, but blipper Nadinepierce will know its more that I don't do mornings.
After breakfast, I spent the morning by the pool, enjoying the occasional plunge. I'm being very careful not to slip as that is how I damaged my knee last time I was here. I went down to the sea at around noon as the waves had calmed a bit, I do love swimming in the sea especially when it's so warm. When it's as it was today you can go out beyond the breaking waves and float on top of the gently rocking water. It's a wonderful feeling. After a while I came back in, body surfing on top of a wave, that too is a wonderful feeling if rather more exhilarating! The child in me wants to whoop out loud as the wave propels me forward!
I had a quick shower then walked across the beach to the other road. I wanted to see if I could find a replacement post office which I had been told was there. I think I was told wrong! I ended up walking uphill to Kovalum Junction to post my card. I was literally dripping by the time I got there, just over a mile almost all uphill!
Back at the hotel, I had an afternoon nap and read for a while then went out for a wander. A gin and tonic and a plate of chips is a healthy balanced snack isn't it? I need to keep my fluids up! It's probably the only alcohol I'll have this trip, as for the chips, likewise, not generally available where I'm going.
I took most of the pics in the extra before going out for dinner. I also had a video call with the girls who were round at our house along with their husbands and children, as well as Colin and my sister who was up for the rugby. I was delighted to hear Josie yell "Grandma" and point to the phone before sticking her nose onto it!
The top shot is from Lighthouse Bay looking north west, the bottom one from my bedroom, what a view! The middle two are of one of the beach sellers and his giant bubbles.
I walked along to one of the beach restaurants, on the way meeting one of three brothers who I've known for years as separate shop keepers without realising they were brothers. They now have two shops adjacent to each other. He asked when I was going to Tirunelveli and when I replied said, "Your project is still going on there? You must tell me how I can help!" I been absolutely amazed by the number of people who remember me and why I am here.
Steps today 10200 and a lot of those uphill!
