What lies beneath the skin...
Market Street in Abergavenny has a row of shops dating back to the 16th century, though remodelled in the 19th, where the upper floor juts out over the lower to keep shoppers dry. Unfortunately, there's a rather tight narrow corner into the street, and periodically large high articularted lorries collide with the upper floors and take some of the rendering off. Rather extensively at the moment. And rendering covers a multitude of evils... Look at it large, and be glad you don't own it! I would not like to live in the flats above the shop here.
You can see the street in pristine condition back in the days of horses and carts here, and also a recent photo before any lorries have collided! Don't take any notice of comments below saying that the NOW photo is not of Market Street. It is, and from more-or-less the same viewpoint. The brewery in the background of the THEN photo no longer exists, though the area behind the Market Hall on the right is known as Brewery Yard.
