And breathe…

Day 2 in the new flat was tough - first we’re all tired and second we’ve found out what doesn’t work. Number 1 the boiler! The pressure was very low so heat has been erratic; I called British Gas for the Homecare service and ended up in a rage with their stupid, obtuse system and unhelpful “advisors”’. It appears that no heat for a 90 year old in February is perfectly fine as she’s not disabled enough to warrant an emergency appointment. Long story short - a 40 minute phone call led to nothing but me cancelling my mum’s BG contract and we spent a long time searching for a local plumber who came round after work, diagnosed the problem, set up a temporary work around and is coming back tomorrow with the required parts. Really helpful. There’s no way my mum could have coped with the BG system on her own.
The broadband and landline aren’t working either and the cable on the garage door broke! It’s been a frustrating day but in the end we’ve made a lot of progress with unpacking and the flat is beginning to look lovely.
I’m going home tomorrow so had to grab my one and only walk on the beach during this manic visit. The late afternoon light was sublime, lots of people were out walking in the  sublime golden dusk.
