The Old Library

There was some mention of Carnegie Libraries on Blip a while back and I knew there was one in Sevenoaks so, as we had a bit of time to spare in the town, I decided to find it.

This lovely building is it - or was it. It was built in 1905 and served the town for many years. It was obviously very elegant inside. It closed in 1986 when the town's library services moved to new premises. The building is now offices and seems to be the used by Handpicked Hotels.

A lovely sunny day, we went on to Sevenoaks Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve and that is where our eldest granddaughter Alice met us with her friend so we could take them home - their school is close by. They are in the middle of exams - mock GCSEs. She seems to be coping well although finding the idea of so many students sitting in one room and in silence for so long quite strange. For a couple of weeks now her grandad has been giving her advice and some geography tutorials (he is well-qualified with his years and years of exam marking) and she says that has helped.

We are now in Hythe and settled into our usual apartment. There was a glorious sunset over the sea but I wasn't quite organised enough to catch it.
