You can't take it with you...
...but you can stop others from taking it.
I love walking round old graveyards. They provide such an important social and historical comment, and I'm often moved and intrigued by the inscriptions on the headstones.
Today I was at Ballyhennan near Loch Lomond which contains many Macfarlane graves. The oldest stone has been dated to the 15th century, but there is a much more recent one commemorating the men who died while building the West Highland Railway Line in the 19th Century.
This inscription brought a smile to my face; I've never seen one like it before. Peter Macfarlane had the 'title deeds' to his lair (plot) and memorial, literally written in stone. What a canny Scot!
